Sinjajevina

Sinjajevina, boulder of wilderness, the largest and widespread mountain of Montenegro when it comes to its size, spreads between Durmitor in the west and Bjelasica in the east. This mountain,40km long and 15km wide, is bordered by most impressive Montenegrin Canyon of river Morača in the southwest, and canyon of river Tara in the northeast.


Morphologically, it represents the mountain plateau of average altitude of about 1 600 m with only a few extremely high peaks (over 2,000 meters). Babji zub, which in the nation, got a name due to its sharp edges, is the highest peak on the mountain Sinjajevina, with an impressive altitude of 2277 m. This peak, with its massive base and steep cliffs, is so immense that it looks like a mountain itself.


Sinjajevina represents the largest limestone plateau in Montenegro, its general characteristic is docility. About 80% of the area is covered with grass vegetation, i.e. meadows and pastures.


The peculiarity of this mountain is actually its vegetation, with an area of 120,000 ha of pastures, where 200,000 sheep can be fed.


Mountain beauty of Sinjajevina is enriched by beautiful lakes, primarily lake Zabojsko, located in the vicinity of the Tara Canyon and lake Zminičko, located on the border of Sinjajevina and Durmitor.


This magnificent mountain has not yet revealed its full splendor as a winter tourist destination.


Terrain of Sinjajevina, besides hiking, provides great opportunities for mountain biking and Nordic skiing and also other more extreme winter sports-climbing, climbing the frozen waterfalls, snowkiting, freeride skiing.
